EXTENDED SYNOPSIS

ALEXANDRA WILSON is a normal girl living in an average suburb. She can sing

brilliantly (she's a songwriter at heart), she's funny and driven. Alex's band is

her life, and her band-mates: expressive AMANDA Tucci, and realist J.B Deekes

are her closest friends. There's also MARCUS, their lead guitarist – he's a year

older, and well, rather attractive. Alex has two grounded parents: ANITA and

JIM, and one very centre-stage younger sister – ZOE. Life is very normal. But –

Since birth Alex's had a succession of causing strange, somewhat magical events.

Fortunately she's been able to conceal, ignore or deny them all. But then a young

man dressed in exotic robes – KURU, with a decorated adult elephant – ANALA (who

has a tendency to vanish now and again) arrive on Alex's doorstep. Kuru explains

Alex is actually PRINCESS Liliuokalani Parasha Khaled Persphone Amanirenas of

MANJIPOOR.

Alex is not so sure about that!

But the magical effects she

seems to cause have recently

blossomed. It's scary. Alex asks

Kuru and Anala to leave. But

they won't go anywhere. They

are under the Royal command

of OMAR, (Chief Advisor to the

former QUEEN NEFARI) to bring

the Princess home to rule.

Manjipoor is an exotic, mystical

kingdom that exists very close to our world – but not in it. The nation was born

600 years ago when 'gifted' people – sorcerers, oracles and witches fled

persecution and created their own territory, and then later moved it for their

protection to a parallel existence by magical means!

Kuru's mission is made easier when Alex's parents accept him as an 'exchange

student' and he is invited to stay at their home. He does his best to fit in at

Alex's school. Alex keeps her identity as a Princess a secret from everybody but

Amanda and J.B., but it's an ongoing problem concealing a wilful, sometimesinvisible

elephant in her backyard.

The recent revelation by Omar of the existence of Manjipoor's secret Princess,

shocks and threatens VASHAN – the last royal relative in a conflicted and dying

dynasty, who fully expected to rule. Aided by his skilful servant DIVA, Vashan

acts at first subtly, then overtly to prevent his cousin – Alex from claiming her

inheritance.

5

Back in 'The Old World' – our world, Kuru's persistence with Alex starts to have an

effect. Alex begins to practise and accept her magic – and it often goes awry. It's

not easy being a teenager with magical powers! Alex uses her magic to rectify

some very teenage related issues – as well as bend the occassional rule, but she

draws the line with using magic in her music or for the band. They've got to prove

they're good enough without it!

Following an encounter in Manjipoor where Alex learns some of the history of

her real Mother, Queen Nefari, and is introduced first hand to Vashan's enmity,

Alex awakens to the strong qualities developing inside her, and the need for her

in Manjipoor as a Princess.

Simultaneously, Alex, Amanda, Marcus and J.B. improve as a band. They get

gigs, and Alex's confidence as a singer increases. Alex finds the pull between

both worlds conflicting. When Vashan becomes increasingly bold in his

endeavours to undermine and overtake Alex, his actions precipitate a series of

stunning revelations affecting the lives of Alex, Kuru, Anala and Omar and the

future of Manjipoor.

Alex finds she must make a choice about where her real destiny lies …

she's magic! They've come to take her home. Alex can't believe it, is this some

kind of party trick? Later, when she cuts her cake, Alex has a premonition.

but still unwilling to believe, she asks them to leave. But the next morning,

and scared, she reacts and accidentally erases her family from existence with

magic! Alex finds the alternative reality she's unwittingly created is a disaster.

“Princess-like”. When Alex's best friends, Amanda and J.B. discover Anala, Alex

tells them the truth. They don't buy it! Alex resorts to attempting a simple

magic trick to prove her story and maintain their friendship. The magic goes

awry however, but Alex is saved when Anala magically appears before them. An

invisible elephant! Amanda and J.B. are now convinced. The backyard

however, is now filled with rabbits which they work desperately to conceal from

Anita, Jim and Alex's sister Zoe. Anala's own magic, results in a helpful solution.

And Marcus, the boy Alex has a crush on, is admitted into their band after a

successful audition.

4. KURU THE GURU Directed by Roger Hodgman Written by Anthony Morris

to put everyone off-side. In order to protect him from certain humiliation in

class and by Trent in the school fencing team, Alex uses her magic to make Kuru

popular. Suddenly he's a star fencer, his class oration is riveting, and all the

girls are giving him their phone number. When Alex's class invite themselves

over to make Kuru styled stir-fries and curries it's clear it's getting way out of

stay for lunch. Things get more painful for Alex when Zoe returns from ballet

Alex who finds she suddenly needs help to keep her on the ground!

6. NOT MADE IN JAPAN Directed by Roger Hodgman Written by Anthony Morris

delivered magic. Kuru unknowingly infects Alex’s magic when he returns from a

trip to Manjipoor. As such, Alex accidentally “creates” a new girlfriend for J.B.

when she inadvertently “destroys” Zoe's anime musical doll ‘Asuza’ with magic.

J.B. is smitten with the sweet and coy teenager, but Amanda discovers there's

much more to Asuza. As a direct reversal of her anime identity, Asuza is highly

fix things quickly with her magic before J.B. is history!

7. LEAN ON ME Directed by Roger Hodgman Written by Sam Carroll

Intrigued by the Princess' progress, Omar asks Kuru to see if Alex would visit him

in Manjipoor. Sensing royal requirements, Alex is reluctant, but acquiesces.

The simple meeting blooms, and soon it's a formal introduction to the entire

Council of Elders of Manjipoor. Vashan learns of the banquet, and sets up an

opportunity to harm Alex

with poison – care of a

magically transformed waiter.

Simultaneously Alex wavers

from her own code, and uses

magic to help get the band

into a talent competition.

Unfortunately the two events

collide. Alex is set to honour

her pledge to Kuru, (and upset

the band by her absence),

until she receives a royal dress

from him for the meeting, gets

cold feet – and backs out! The band earn an honourable mention at the

competition, but as a result of her non-appearance at the banquet with the

Council of Elders, Kuru is fired. Alex swiftly has to make amends by going to

Omar and making a case for Kuru to be reinstated. In the process, she is

reintroduced to her real home – Manjipoor.

13

8. WELCOME TO THE FAIRY TALE Directed by Roger Hodgman Written by Chris Roache

Amanda encourages Alex to visit Manjipoor without Kuru – who believes it would

require a Royal Event. Alex is curious to see more of her kingdom, and with J.B.

they sneak away with Anala. Instead of the Royal Palace, they find themselves

transported to an enchanted forest where they encounter a peasant family

whose son has been turned into a mouse! When Alex attempts to use her magic

to restore him, the mouse goes missing, and the family give chase. Locating the

mouse and rectifying her error – Alex finds an eager ally in Johan who pledges

his help to the girl who saved him. Alex, Amanda and J.B. are led by Johan to

the Marketplace to find Anala, and there have a near encounter with Vashan –

who sensing her magic, is desperate to capture Alex. Recognising their son has

been freed by magic, the gypsy family inspire the locals to protect the girl they

now recognise is the new Princess of Manjipoor. Alex, Amanda and J.B. escape

and the legend of the lost Princess begins.

9. WARTS & ALL Directed by Daniel Nettheim Written by Simon Butters

When Marcus asks her to a gig, Alex wonders if he is in love with her. She casts

a spell and accidentally turns herself into a frog! With tiny frog arms and legs,

there doesn't appear to be an easy way for Alex to gesture and undo it. After

she is nearly washed away in a sewer, Kuru discreetly seeks a solution in

Manjipoor. To restore her to humanity Alex must be kissed by her one “true

love”. But despite Amanda, J.B. and Kuru's best efforts, Marcus doesn't appear

to be willing to kiss a slimy, green frog. Soon after Alex is nearly anaesthetised

in Science Class for amphibian dissection! Not only is she going to miss her

date, she mightn't even survive! It appears the only way for Alex to be normal

again is to tell Marcus the truth – until Kuru discovers a startling solution.

10. THE BUTTERFLY EFFECT Directed by Daniel Nettheim Written by Max Dann

Vashan uses magic to transform his servant Diva into ‘Juliet’, a beautiful

teenage girl, with the additional power to transform herself into a butterfly. On

his command she travels secretly to Alex’s world, riding as a butterfly on Anala's

back. Her mission is to find out Alex's weaknesses and use them against her.

Diva (as Juliet) is stunned to find that, in Alex’s world, no-one knows she’s a

magical Princess. She is also amazed that she is only a novice with her powers.

Juliet moves in on Kuru, and invites herself around to Alex's home. Realising

that the existence of Anala is also a secret, Juliet begins to disrupt Alex’s life by

attempting to reveal Anala to Zoe and Alex's family. In the process the Wilson's

car gets crumpled, and she makes Anala very sick.

14

11. BUTTERFLY KISS Directed by Daniel Nettheim Written by Anthony Morris

Diva (disguised as a butterfly) returns to Manjipoor when Kuru visits, and

conspires with Vashan to use her secret identity as Juliet to fracture Kuru and

Alex’s close relationship – and thwart his ability to help her with magic. At

school, Juliet amps up the allure and gets a lot closer to Kuru. Observing the

magic runes in Kuru's bag, she sets up a situation where Alex finds them kissing

during study. Alex won't admit it, but she's getting jealous. Then when the

magic runes go missing, Alex and Kuru have a major argument – both accusing

each other of being irresponsible. Certain to be punished for their loss, Kuru

returns to Manjipoor. But Anala returns him to the Enchanted Forest, where he

encounters Juliet! A chase and confrontation in the Marketplace ensue – until

Vashan intervenes. Kuru recovers the runes, but have Vashan and Diva

succeeded in tearing Kuru and Alex apart permanently?

12. DANCING QUEEN Directed by Daniel Nettheim Written by Max Dann

Zoe has been bragging she’s got the lead role in her upcoming recital, a ballet

version of ‘Alice in Wonderland’. But when Alex has to hand-deliver her

misdirected costume to the rehearsal, she finds out that Zoe is only a minor

player – the Dormouse! When Zoe plays sick to avoid her performance, Alex

speaks to her and discovers some unexpected truths. Ashamed, Zoe intends to

pull out of ballet and run away! Alex convinces her not to give up. She locates

her old ballet shoes and endues them with magic – unknown to Zoe – giving them

to her to use. With Amanda, Alex then helps keep the situation a secret from

their parents and gets Zoe to complete her role as the Dormouse in the recital.

It's a surprising performance! Meanwhile J.B. finds out exactly how much one of

Kuru’s gold coins is worth.

13. DESTINY'S CHILD Directed by Daniel Nettheim Written by Sam Carroll

Mothers Day makes Alex aware of how little she knows about her real mother –

Queen Nefari. Kuru struggles to offer her the answers she craves, and directs

her to Omar, who was the Queen's closest advisor. Alex secretly travels to

Manjipoor and is directed by Omar to a special place left as a memorial to her

mother in the Walled Garden. There Alex discovers a symbol reflected on the

waters of a pond, and when she replicates it with a gesture, finds herself in a

twilight world with a vision of Queen Nefari! It's an emotional message Nefari

conveys, which at one point becomes real! Alex reacts to the change, and the

illusion shatters – revealing Vashan! A magical fight ensues, and Alex leaves him

smarting from the confrontation. She returns to share Mothers Day with Anita

and her family, transformed and with a surer sense of her destiny.

15

14. TIME AFTER TIME Directed by Daniel Nettheim Written by Chris Anastassiades

Marcus finally asks Alex to go on their first date, and Alex is very excited. She

has a ‘vision’ of just how perfect it will be. Kuru has doubts about the Princess

‘dating’ Marcus and reminds Alex of her reluctance to tell him about her true

identity. Following a magic practise session, Alex discovers the ‘time-slip’ rune.

Alex puts the symbol to good use when her preparations for the date come

unstuck with chocolate milkshakes and green face–masks. Then, when things go

wrong on her date, she uses “time-slip” magic to turn back time to make each

moment perfect. Meanwhile in Manjipoor, Vashan tries to ingratiate himself

with Anala, to be able to travel to Alex's world. At the conclusion of the date,

Alex eventually decides to tell Marcus the truth about her – but there’s a price

to pay for both Alex and Vashan.

15. HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANALA Directed by Daniel Nettheim Written by Philip Dalkin

It's the day of the Royal Elephant Festival in Manjipoor, a big, important

occasion – and Alex surprises Kuru when she agrees to attend as the Princess of

Manjipoor!

At the festival, Commoners queue with gifts

for Anala to seek the bestowal of a single

Royal favour. Things go from bad to worse

when Alex sneaks Amanda and J.B. along, and

then invites teenage Manjipoorian Commoners

to attend too. The dignified function is soon

displaced by a wild dance party! Finding Kuru

absent owing to his duties as a servant, Alex

commands Diva to invite him. In the choas

that follows, food and drink go flying, until the

party is brought to an abrupt end by Omar!

While Kuru was absent from his post outside, a

jewel from Anala’s headdress was stolen.

Kuru is set to be imprisoned until Anala breaks

protocol and touches him with her trunk and

granting him the Royal favour! Anala grants

Kuru his one wish and he is pardoned – but

now there’s a thief out there who can get to

Alex’s world.

16

16. THE BIG GIG Directed by Grant Brown Written by Sam Carroll

Marcus books a gig at his cousin Harry's café – where apparently the last singer

who performed was signed on the spot by the executive from Zap Records!

Unfortunately when they visit, they discover the stage at the cafe is only big

enough for duos at best. Unwilling to let the opportunity slide, Marcus suggests

only two of them perform so the band can still get noticed. J.B. and Amanda

both want Alex to use magic to ‘fix’ things, but she won't do that. They have to

be good enough without magic! When Amanda struggles with the new

unplugged arrangement, Alex tries out as lead vocalist, and it works. The

changes get things heated and J.B. quits! Alex and Marcus perform together at

the cafe, but when the chance of success finally comes – Alex is faced with a

decision to use magic, and a choice between the future of the band and her

friends.

In Manjipoor, Vashan and Diva try to work out how to use Anala's jewel to get to

Alex’s world.

17. MASQUERADE BALL Directed by Grant Brown Written by Lally Katz

Instructed by Alex to relax from his duties, Kuru is swiftly chosen by Amanda to

be her partner at the school's annual ball. It's a fairy-tale theme and Kuru will

be her Prince Charming! Alex and Marcus are going as ‘Red Riding Hood’ and

‘The Wolf’. J.B. hasn't got a date, and tricks Alex into a trip to Manjipoor so he

can ask Cosma to the ball. But when they return – they're not the only

travellers! Using Anala's jewel, Vashan and Diva journey with them undetected.

A masked Vashan cuts in on Marcus and dances with Alex! Alex realises his

disguise and all mayhem breaks loose when Vashan turns Marcus into a real

wolf, turning him against her. Alex and Kuru are able to thwart his attack – but

with the jewel still in his possession, Alex's world is no longer safe.

17

18. ALMOST TOO FAMOUS Directed by Grant Brown Written by Max Dann

On Vashan’s return to Alex’s world, he tells her he’s found the perfect way to

stop her wanting to ever be Princess of Manjipoor. He’s simply going to give

Alex everything she wants! He magically makes her the most famous rock singer

in the world and Alex quickly

forgets who she really is. Alex is

mobbed by fans, paparazzi and the

press. She returns to her old family

home – now a museum, with her

manager and the man who created

her dizzying career, ‘Vashan-

Vashan’. With Manjipoor and her

old life seemingly erased, Alex is

genuinely ‘happy’. It's only Kuru,

returning from Manjipoor who

realises things are not the way

they’re supposed to be. Kuru tries to alert Alex, but he's thwarted by her

personal bodyguard. Then when Alex finally sees Kuru, she doesn't even

recognise him! Kuru finds his way into Alex's sell-out homecoming concert

however, and is able to explain the truth to her. Alex then has a decision to

make – stay in her happy rock goddess world, or accept that she is a magical

Princess.

19. PRINCESS AMANDA Directed by Grant Brown Written by Simon Butters

Alex and Marcus have been dating for a month, and Marcus seeks Amanda's help

to find him the right anniversary gift for Alex. Amanda tells him it's jewellery!

After trading Marcus' money for one of Kuru's gold coins, Kuru is stunned to see

her disappear with Anala – travelling to Manjipoor! When Amanda arrives in the

Marketplace she is mistaken by the common people for the Princess incognito!

At first, it's not such a bad thing when she is showered with gifts, and her

guidance sought. But then, Vashan arrives. He wants to know how she was able

to control and command Anala. Amanda finds herself in danger when Vashan

takes her to the Palace and threatens her with dangerous magic. Meanwhile,

Kuru alerts Alex to Amanda's unusual journey. Alex guesses her intention and

travels with Kuru to mount a rescue mission, but will they make it in time?

18

20. COURTROOM JEWEL Directed by Grant Brown Written by Anthony Morris

While J.B. directs a music video for the band, Alex finds herself suddenly

transported to a ledge of the palace 100 stories high with Vashan! She breaks

the illusion, but is shaken by the event. Marcus feels there's something going on

between Alex and Kuru when he sees them consulting about Vashan. It doesn’t

help when Amanda and J.B. then help to conceal Kuru's departure – apparently

there are secrets the others all share except him! In Manjipoor, Vashan preempts

Kuru's damaging report and discovers Anala's missing jewel in Omar's

desk! Omar is put on trial before the Council of Elders. Alex argues Omar's case

but lacks evidence to prove his innocence. While editing the video clip

is pardoned, and Vashan promptly vanishes. Marcus meanwhile, still has

reservations about Alex's secret activities.

21. SEA CHANGE Directed by Grant Brown Written by Sam Carroll

Provoked by more private discussions between Alex and Kuru, Marcus gets into a

fight with Kuru! The uneasy situation reminds Alex how much she feels pulled

between her world and Manjipoor. Where does she really belong? The band

organise time at a professional studio to create their first demo CD, and on the

day of the session Anala and Alex's guitar go missing! Alex realises she must find

Anala and during the search with Kuru, is reconnected with memories from her

childhood. Anala leads her back to a memory that Alex had forgotten. Alex

misses the recording session with the band, but finds a reminder of what Anala

and Manjipoor really means to her. When she returns, her band dumps her, and

Marcus breaks off their relationship!

22. REVELATION Directed by Grant Brown Written by Chris Roache

Finding her friends are now distant, shaken by the break-up of the band and the

perception she's not committed, Alex decides to commit to being Princess of

Manjipoor. She travels to Manjipoor to accept and begin her role. But Vashan

ensures that the job isn't easy. Alex is faced with paperwork, formalities,

protocol and grooming. Alex is resolute and determined to change for good.

When Diva finds a discrepancy in Alex's date of birth, a thread begins to

unravel… Vashan discovers Alex's father wasn't the King! Alex confronts Omar

and discovers the truth of her parentage. She's shattered. Manjipoor is full of

secrets and deception! Upset and angry, Alex abdicates and vows never to

return.

23. IT'S AN ORDINARY LIFE Directed by Grant Brown Written by Anthony Morris

Kuru packs up his belongings for

his final trip home. As Alex is

no longer a Princess – he's not

her servant. His goodbye to

Amanda, J.B. and the Wilsons is

a sad one, and Jim pledges to

complete a special project – a

Manjipoorian gazebo, Kuru

started in their backyard. Alex

is forced to return to Manjipoor

to formally hand over the

throne to Vashan. While she is

there Alex bids her final

goodbye to Kuru. It's a charged moment. Now free of his obligations, Kuru

surprises Alex by telling her how angry and hurt he is that she’s given up. He

leaves her on her own. Omar attempts to have Alex reconsider her abdication

but she is determined – no more being a Princess, and no more magic. Still

smarting from his secret, Alex meets Omar's final attempt at reconciliation with

a harsh reply. Back home – J.B. helps Jim try to finish Kuru’s gazebo, and Jim

guides J.B. toward repairing his friendship with Alex after the band split-up. In

Manjipoor, Kuru and Alex finally part with a selfless goodbye, while Diva reveals

her true powers!

24. UNEXPECTED ARRIVALS Directed by Grant Brown Written by Philip Dalkin

Alex, Amanda and J.B. move to restore their friendship – and begin jamming

again, although it mightn't be in the garage, where Zoe has plans for her own

ballet studio. While in Manjipoor, Omar meets with Kuru on new terms and

Vashan begins planning for his Coronation. During his preparations Vashan

discovers Diva using magic! She’s not who she seems to be! Diva acts to rectify

the situation, and absorbs all of Vashan's magic. He's powerless! Rising swiftly

to seize control of Manjipoor, Diva wounds Omar in a fight. Omar flees and Kuru

gets Anala to spirit them both away to the safety of Alex’s world. Alex puts

aside her animosity to help Omar, but can she save him from injuries sustained

by magic? Omar lapses into unconsciousness and Alex, Kuru, Amanda and J.B.

are in a dilemma. How can they explain his existence? Reluctantly Alex breaks

her own code, and uses magic healing spells to assist him. In doing so Alex

discovers a letter Omar carries from Queen Nefari about her love for him and

their daughter. Alex is amazed. In Manjipoor, Diva realises where Omar has

fled and travels to capture Omar and Anala – leaving Kuru and Alex cut off in the

Old World.

25. GOOD VIBRATIONS Directed by Grant Brown Written by Chris Anastassiades

With Anala held captive by Diva in magical golden chains, Alex and Kuru are

powerless to rescue Omar and Anala and stop Diva. Alex conceives a plan.

Refering to the runes and Kuru's parchments she recognises the magic that

Manjipoor's founders used to protect the kingdom, may be the key to allowing

her to connect with Anala and break the barrier between the worlds. With the

help of Amanda, J.B. some serious amplifiers, and all of her magic, Alex does

the impossible – she uses magic to transport herself and Kuru back to Manjipoor!

In the process however, Zoe's new dance studio in the garage suffers the

aftershock, and Alex is exhausted. Cosma gains them access to the Palace, to

rescue Omar, where first Alex destroys her papers of abdication. But Diva is

alert to the exceptional forces of magic at play. Before Alex can reach the

dungeon, Diva tricks Omar to giving her the location of the Crown. Her

Coronation is now assured! Alex and Kuru finally encounter Diva, but weakened

by her journey, Alex is no match for her. She is defeated by Diva's magic and

Diva steals her powers! Alex is cast into the dungeon with Omar and Vashan.

Kuru survives the fight, and escapes – but what can he now do?

21

26. NORMAL ALEX WILSON Directed by Grant Brown Written by Philip Dalkin

Alex is now powerless. She’s regular Alexandra Wilson again – her magic having

been stolen by Diva. The only difference is she's in the Royal Dungeons in

Manjipoor with Omar and Vashan. At home, Amanda and J.B. are worried for

her safety, and it gets complicated when Anita discovers Alex didn't stay at

Amanda's house overnight. Back in Manjipoor, Kuru meets with a small rebellion

of Manjipoorians. He steals into the Palace and breaks into the dungeon –

freeing Alex! On their exit, Omar and Vashan are reapprehended, but Kuru and

Alex escape. Alex inspires the Manjipoorians to help her overthrow Diva. She

interrupts the Coronation ceremony and is chased by Diva through the forests of

Manjipoor in a dangerous flying carpet chase. In a climatic battle Diva,

however, overturns Alex and the rebelling Manjipoorians' plan… until Anala –

momentarily freed from her chains, does magic and restores Alex's powers!

Magic again, Alex defeats Diva! Forced to admit what they know, Amanda and

J.B. confess the truth about Alex to Anita, Jim and Zoe – but they don't believe

it! Alex returns to invite Amanda and J.B. to the Coronation, and the Wilson's

are left none the wiser! Alex is crowned in a glittering ceremony and Manjipoor

will never again be the same.
